Ole Steen Nielsen, MD, DMSci Dr. Ole Steen Nielsen is Head of Department of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital and Associate Professor of Oncology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. He is also chairman of the Protocol Review Committee of EORTC as well as member of the board of EORTC. He is former Chairman of the Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma group of EORTC, and former president of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society CTOS. Dr. Nielsen is presently member of the Advisory Board of Acta Oncologica, the Scientific Committee of Children Cancer Foundation, the Editorial board of Sarcoma, as well as chairman and member of several scientific and patient grant boards. This year he has been appointed chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board CETAME Lundbeck Center. Dr. Nielsen has been a reviewer for several international journals. Dr. Nielsen has written more than 140 articles, in addition to over 160 abstracts and book chapters as well as more than 225 presentations at international meetings. His research interests focus on clinical and basic research in sarcomas, the biology and treatment of bone metastasis as well as treatment of gynaecologic and gastrointestinal tumours. Dr Nielsen received his M.D. degree from the University of Aarhus in Denmark in 1980. Same year he received a gold medal for a thesis on Radiotherapy. In 1984 he defended his science thesis and was appointed doctor of Medicine Science at the University of Aarhus. In 1990 he received his specialist degree in Clinical Oncology. In 1990-91 he was clinical fellow at the University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Hospital. From 1995 he has been the Head of the Cancer Centre at University Hospital of Aarhus. Dr. Nielsen joined the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative's Medical Advisory and Editorial Board in February 2006.
